Make Your Wedding Day Makeup Last

Bridal makeup is a specialty all its own.  It has to be absolutely flawless up close and personal and on video and film.  It has to be exactly what the bride has always envisioned and it has to last all day.

See what I mean about it being unique?

Well here’s a few tips to help you get the most out of your wedding day makeup.  First, use waterproof mascara, a good one won’t flake and it will stand up to any tears that might escape when he is saying his vows to you.

Avoid makeup pencils for your eye liner or eyebrows.  The reason for this is as your body heats up the wax in the pencil will also heat up and actually slide right off your face.  So use either a waterproof liquid liner like Wet ‘N Wilds H2o or a powder shadow for your eyes and powder for your brows.

Skip the sunscreen on your big day.  No need to risk a Ghost Face in your pictures by having an extra layer of Titanium Dioxide on your skin.  Not to mention the extra oil in the sunscreen might make your foundation slid and come off.

Set your makeup with powder.  Even if you don’t usually use it, today is not the day to forgo your powder.  A good powder will set the makeup, giving you a fresh flawless look as well as absorbing any moisture from sweat or tears.  So don’t skip this step.

And last but not least, when in doubt, get a Pro.  They will help you achieve the best look and help you keep looking your best all day and well into the night.

Different Uses for Your Makeup

I think the coolest thing about makeup is the freedom it gives us to get creative.  It allows us to change our moods just by the application of some lipstick or a different shade of shadow.  I also love how flexible makeup itself is.  Each item can be used for multiple things, which makes it great in this day and age when budget is a big factor is what we get to buy.

So, you want to get creative and get the most out of the makeup you have?  Here’s a few ways to make your makeup work for you.

Eyeshadow:  So many uses!  You have no idea.  You can use eye shadow for so many things.  One small compact of shadow could work as you blush, you contour, your highlight, your eye shadow (of course), your eyebrows, you eye liner and you can even use it to color your lips!  It’s crazy how versatile a good eye shadow can be.

Personally I use my black NYX eye shadow to fill in my eyebrows, to darken my lid and blend out my crease and to line my eyes.  How easy is that?  One shadow to do three jobs?  Talk about being able to pack light!

Lipstick:  This can be used as a cream eye shadow, a cream blush and even a cream contour or highlighter depending on the shade.

You can use lip liner for eye liner, eye liner for brow pencil and you can use mascara on your eyebrows to fill them in if you have the right shade!

There are so many uses for each individual piece of makeup that the possibilities of the looks you can create are endless.  So if you’re looking to change up your look but you lack the funds to try out a new eye liner to give yourself that awesome pinup liner, try your black eye shadow.  Dampen it with some contact solution and just paint it on like a liquid liner.  It will give you that sharp defined line and best of all dry into a powder so it won’t melt away or smudge away.

Go on, try something new with your makeup.  See what other uses you can come up with.  I dare you!

Hot Rollers 101: How to Get Volume

Have you been trying to get volume in your hair and it just keeps falling flat?  Have you tried everything?  What about hot rollers?

I know the idea of hot rollers seems a little dated, but believe me, they have their uses.  A good set of hot rollers won’t cost you an arm and a leg, but they will give you amazing volume that will last all day.

My favorite brand of hot rollers are the Remington T-Studio.  You can find them at Target of all places for under $50 and they will last forever.  I think I have had my set since 2007.

Anyway, you want to find the ones that are ceramic covered in like velvet.  You also want to make sure that the clamps are lined with Ceramic as well.  The reason for this is that the ceramic will radiate the heat out, hit the ceramic plates on the clamps holding the rollers and go straight back into the hair.  You will get the most curl because the heat will really set it.

Now, just having hot rollers isn’t the only thing, you have to be putting them in right.  So here’s what you got to do.

First, section out your bangs, you don’t want to curl them with the rest of your hair unless you want to look a little crazy.

Second take a section at the front of your head, just behind where you have sectioned out your bangs.  Pull it straight up, spray the backside of the section with a spritz of good hairspray.  I recommend the Enjoy Hair Care Hair Spray, it gives you a great hold and doesn’t flake.

Now, take your first hot roller, be careful cause they can get pretty hot.  Slide it up from the base of the section of hair.  The reason I do this is it will smooth any flyaway hairs up into the section.  Once the roller reaches the top of the section, roll it back away from your face.  Roll it down until it is sitting on the top of your head.  Then put on the clamp.

Work your way back along your crown.

Now if you just want the top of your head to have volume and don’t want to have big Victoria Secret curls, just do the crown of your head.  What you want to have is a Mohawk of hot rollers down the very center of your head.  This is going to give you that amazing volume to your hair.

Once you have rolled the last of the hair in your Mohawk, lightly spray the rollers with your hair spray.  Let them sit on your head until they are cool to touch.  Remove them in a spinning motion so you don’t lose your curl.  If you don’t want curl just remove them normal and run your fingers through them.

Once removed your hair will have amazing volume along your crown, you can add a little back combing if you want and just style however you like.

Well there you go.
