Preventing Bubbles in Your Nail Polish

Our Face Book fan Kimela Shucart had a very good question: Why does my nail polish bubble when I put it on??? I don’t shake it up.

Here’s the answer:

Nail Polish can develop bubbles in the coat for several reasons, age, product, residue on actual nail, etc., here are a few tips to keep your nails bubble free:

1. Use fresh polish. Any nail polish over a year old is more prone to produce bubbles.

2. Don’t shake the bottle. Shaking it produces bubbles, instead roll the bottle between your palms to mix it.

3. Avoid thick coats. Instead apply multiple thin layers of polish to achieve the desired coverage. Thick layers can be hiding small air pockets and some brands have additional drying agents added to them to help speed up the drying process. These can create bubbles in thick layers of polish as they are trying to dry it fast.

4. Clean the applicator. Some times the bristles in the applicator can trap air bubbles and thus pass them into the polish on your nail. Try cleaning your applicator on occasion. Use Acetone or Nail Polish Remover to clean it. That should reduce bubbles.

5. Clean Nails. Make sure your nails are clean. Sometimes applying polish directly after you have buffed or filed them can cause that debris to stick to your nail and contaminate your polish.

Brows 101

No longer do you need to walk through the world with pencil thin brows or a look of perpetual surprise on your face.

First don’t go tweezer happy. Don’t sit in front of a magnifying mirror for hours on end removing those hairs. You do that and you just might find you don’t have any eyebrows left!

Second, eyebrows are sisters not twins! They aren’t going to be identical to each other, no matter how much time you spend on them. Each side of your face is different. The hairs grow differently, you hold them differently. The muscles are developed differently. So don’t expect them to be the same.

Third, start your brows just over your tear ducts. Lining them up from this position should keep them from being too narrow or too wide set for your face.

Fourth, a brow should gradually be arched so that the highest point is just to the outside of our iris. Fifth, fill in your brows people! This doesn’t mean you need to draw on heavy dark man brows, but using a little powder or pencil, one shade lighter than the hair on your head will finish off your brows.

Follow these simple steps and you’ll have brows you can not only live with, but that you’ll love!

5 Must Dos for Updos

1. Don’t be afraid of hair spray
Hair Spray is your friend when it comes to any updo. If your hair is slick a little hair spray will make it more managaeable. It will help control flyaways and generally save your life in the updo arena. Not too mention aerosol hair spray can be turned into a portable flame thrower, so I guess it could save your life in other areas too!

2. Back comb
I am not talking a snooky do people! But a little volume is needed for your hair to get that perfect sculpted look, or to just make an ok do a fab do.

3. Lock your bobby pins
What this means, is create a base to your do. Lock your first two pins, one over the other and build your style over this base.

4. Mess up your hair
It’s no secret that hair that is just a little dirty, I am not talking greasy, pins sliding out dirty, is more manageable. I mean if your hair is so clean that it’s slick with shine, mess it up a little with some hair spray, some mousse, a little something to help it hold all the pins you are going to be putting into it.

5. Don’t be afraid
Play with your hair, nothing you do short of shaving it off is permanent. Play with new styles and fashions. It’s the only way you are going to learn. So have fun, fabulous hair is waiting for you!

Designing Dreams is the collaboration of Designer Tiana Vega and Jennifer Richards. Together with Couture Connection they created this festive event.

Designing Dreams was not only an exquisite gala affair but a fund-raising benefit event for the Sweet Dreams Foundation.

A portion of the proceeds from the event were scheduled to go towards designing a dream bedroom for 8 year old Aimee who’s been fighting Xeroderma Pigmentosa (XP) since birth.

Aimee’s condition makes her skin extremely sensitive to the damaging effects of ultraviolet radiation, preventing her from exposure to sunlight, forcing her to spend her days continuously inside. By creating a dream room, designer Jennifer Richards helps the child enjoy the room of their dreams that can help ease the pain and also help in the healing process.

Quick & Easy Classic Pin-up Makeup

1. Apply your foundation and powder as usual for a flawless, finish.

2. Apply a Matte white shadow on lid and brow bone

3. Apply Light brown shadow in crease

4. Apply liquid black liner to upper lid, winging slightly out and at an upward angle.

5. Apply White liner on lower lid along the water line

6. Apply a heavy coat of mascara or apply false lashes

7. Draw on or fill in your brows to define them. Use a ½ shade darker then you normally would for an added glamorous touch.

8. Apply your Blush: Use a light peachy pink blush if you are doing red lips. Use a pinky blush if you are doing hot pink lips.

9. Avoid highlighting or contouring unless absolutely needed for balancing features

10. Avoid shimmers in shadows, try to use all matte

11. Apply your lips, using either bold red or hot pink for a more modern flare to your pinup look.

12. Use black liquid liner to create a Beauty Mark on side where hair your hair is parted from
